  1. Set the stage for discussion by introducing open-ended questions for discussions and using graphic organizers to help students organize their ideas.

  2. Introduce key vocabulary so that students can create a personal dictionary, create flash cards for vocabulary practice, or conduct word study by taking words apart (affixes and roots).
